Street furniture manufacturer in France: more than a job, a commitment

Polymobyl has been manufacturing street furniture in France since 1986. Right from the start, we have been thinking about the impact of our activity in terms of ecology and social progress. By analyzing every stage in the design and manufacture of our street furniture, we have gradually identified areas for improvement. We consider each piece of furniture in its entirety, taking into account the product’s entire life cycle. Today, we’re proud to be one of France’s leaders in responsible, designer street furniture.

What is street furniture?

This term refers to all equipment designed to enhance public spaces, making life easier for users while conveying a positive image of the town or company. As a manufacturer of street furniture, we focus on enhancing the value of spaces, designing modular products that can be easily integrated into existing layouts.

Product categories for urban development

Our range of street furniture is both comprehensive and diversified. Through different product lines, we enable our customers to arrange all types of spaces to their liking. Our catalog includes

Designing public and professional spaces

The use of street furniture guides the choice and placement of elements. Is it to create a shaded rest area? A bus shelter combined with bicycle parking? A break area for company employees? A terrace for a bar or restaurant? All of these projects differ in terms of their purpose, the expected audience and the type of products to be installed.

Street furniture must meet precise specifications. Each project we undertake makes the most of the available space and blends in perfectly with the architecture of the site. We take charge of every project, starting with an audit of the site to be equipped. Next, our design office works on possible layouts, suitable materials, customization… We consult the client at every stage before validating our idea and complying as closely as possible with your specifications, both technical and financial. The project is then presented in the form of a costed action plan (also known as a specification), including images, 2D and 3D plans, product data sheets…

How do you design street furniture?

There are two essential criteria in product design: the choice of materials and the design of shapes. Polymobyl works with quality raw materials, selected for their elegance, durability and controlled environmental impact.

Carefully selected materials

We design our street furniture in wood, using Douglas fir and larch from high-grade, sustainably-managed French forests. We also make extensive use of metal, more specifically sheet steel, stainless steel and aluminum. To create transparent surfaces, such as bus shelter roofs and walls, we use glass, polycarbonate or Plexiglas.

The aesthetics of street furniture are largely determined by its overall design. All our ranges offer simple, clean lines that emphasize space and open up perspectives. Some of them can be adapted as required.

How is Polymobyl an eco-responsible company?

In 2010, we initiated a process of ecological commitment to our business by carrying out the company’s carbon footprint. We then put in place measures to improve our environmental impact, at every level of our business: design office missions, furniture manufacturing in the workshop, work on public urban and professional sites, energy and resource savings…

At the same time, our design office has developed real expertise in product lifecycles and the eco-design of street furniture.

Our roadmap for creating sustainable street furniture

Committed to an eco-responsible approach, Polymobyl works from the initial environmental assessment and project requirements to identify possible eco-design avenues. The entire project is approached along the following lines:

  • Combining ecodesign and design;
  • Minimizing the impact of raw materials;
  • Optimize manufacturing techniques;
  • Reduce the environmental impact of furniture use;
  • Anticipating product end-of-life.

A few examples of eco-responsible projects

Several of our street furniture models have been assessed for their environmental impact: the 25° & Cie bicycle shelter, the rainwater harvesting parasol, the LUD range litter garbage can, the NUT picnic table and the CUB stool. The results are more than satisfactory, as our products have been awarded an Eco Impact A score. As a reminder, this classification includes :

  • The impact of raw materials and transport;
  • Product durability and recyclability;
  • Social impact (in terms of staff working conditions).
