Urban planning: spaces evolving to meet new challenges

Designer street furniture is no longer just about installing benches. Today,urban furnishings contribute to sustainable development and the evolution of public spaces. Polymobyl supports this trend with strong CSR commitments and functional, comfortable and durable ranges for the benefit of users.

What are the challenges of urban development?

Planning a city is a global project, which takes into account not only usage, but also aesthetics and the well-being of users.

New parameters

Urban planners, architects and public space managers are facing a host of challenges when it comes to urban development. Population growth creates exponential needs in terms of housing and services, and reinforces the gentrification of certain neighborhoods. The deployment of a high-performance public transport network and the development of soft mobility also require appropriate infrastructures.

On the environmental and geopolitical fronts, climate change and the emergence of new risks are forcing cities to become more resilient.

Urban planning must now take all these factors into account.

Multiple needs

Street furniture plays a central role in many outdoor design projects:

  • streets and squares, parks and green spaces in cities ;
  • health or educational establishments ;
  • (break areas, catering areas, etc.);
  • airports, train and bus stations ;
  • freeway service areas ;
  • areas for breaks and socializing (picnic areas, shared gardens, etc.);
  • urban cool islands…

What makes Polymobyl the ideal partner for your sustainable development projects?

Our company has been designing street furniture for companies and local authorities since 1986. Thanks to our multidisciplinary design office, we accompany each project from A to Z. The initial design brief takes into account all the technical, environmental and aesthetic constraints of the site to be developed. Polymobyl also integrates equipment customization requirements.

Design a public space that reflects your image

Polymobyl doesn’t just create designer furniture. We anticipate the needs of tomorrow’s city through constant innovation, regular investment in R&D and custom-designed furnishings.

When you call on us, you benefit from a complete site audit. From the outset, our proposal takes into account the constraints of the site, its uses and the expectations of its users.

All the features of our products can be adjusted: dimensions, design, materials, finishes, colors, laser engraving or cutting, planting… Our furniture ranges also help to counter the effects of climate change in cities.

From plug-and-play solutions to customized equipment

Polymobyl offers different levels of customization to meet the needs of all project owners. From “ready-to-install” furniture to 100% customized urban projects, our approach is tailored to your needs.

What's the role of recreational areas in the city?

Today’surban spaces are more than just functional. Today’s city dwellers are looking for places dedicated to well-being, exchange and conviviality. With this in mind, Polymobyl has completely redesigned two of its flagship furniture ranges.

NUT, a line dedicated to rest and picnic areas

This range with its natural design was initially conceived in Douglas fir, a naturally rot-resistant and elegant wood. It includes all the furnishings needed to create rest areas and pleasant communal spaces:

  • tables, bar tables and picnic tables (bare or sheltered) ;
  • benches, chairs, seats, stools, deckchairs and sheltered benches;
  • litter garbage cans.

To combine natural ambience and modern comfort, the NUT range also includes connected furniture.

Recently, Polymobyl modernized this line with new, more contemporary colors and pastel shades (green, brown, gray). We now also use class 3 Douglas fir, ideal for outdoor use exposed to the elements. The design and finishes have also been slightly reworked for better integration into today’s collective environments.

LUD, dynamic and creative street furniture

This line reinvents itself with a palette of colors in tune with current trends in urban design. Alongside dynamic shades such as yellow and orange, vegetal nuances such as forest green and olive grey seduce with their elegance and ability to blend naturally into projects combining wood and metal. A contemporary collection designed to bring character and coherence to public spaces.

Urban pergola, a place to relax in the city

In the face of climate change, creating cool zones has become essential. Our made-to-measure urban shade structures reconcile well-being, the fight against heat islands and the greening of space. They enhance user comfort while blending harmoniously into public squares and communal spaces.

In terms of landscaping, arbors and urban galleries also help to structure spaces for a clearer city. Our pergolas are available in standard, customizable or entirely made-to-measure versions to meet the needs of every project.
