Signage project: Polymobyl’s experience to enhance your spaces
Polymobyl is a signage and street furniture design company founded in 1986. These decades of expertise have enabled us to carry out numerous signage projects in France and Morocco, in a wide variety of environments.
What is good signage?
This term refers to all the tools designed to enhance a site and optimize the public experience. The design of signage must not only provide useful information to visitors and users, but also reflect the site’s visual identity and respect its graphic charter.
What are the objectives of signage?
Signs and other directional masts are used to guide and inform the public, but also to reassure them when they enter unfamiliar places or premises.
The objectives of the signage are as follows:
- Orientation: administrations, shops, remarkable sites, hiking or interpretation trails…
- Identification: of a space, a building, a service…
- Interpretation: through cultural, architectural, historical, natural and geological information…
- Information: site opening hours, safety instructions, regulations…
What types of signage are available?
A wide range of communication media and materials can be used to create customized signage. Depending on your objectives and site requirements, we can design, manufacture and install :
- Gantries and information panels ;
- Directional masts ;
- Wall plates ;
- Reading and interpretation desks ;
- Totems and kakemonos.
How do you create effective mountain signage?
More than any other environment, ski resorts and mountain sites present challenges that only an expert signage agency can successfully meet.
The particularities of the mountain environment
The mountains have many faces: frequented in summer and winter alike, they don’t offer the same activities depending on the season. Mountain signage covers villages and winter sports resorts, as well as ski slopes, toboggan runs, snowshoeing and hiking trails.
On the other hand, climatic conditions vary from one extreme to another depending on the season, requiring the manufacture of resistant and durable substrates.
The requirements for high-quality mountain signage
Like any other signage project, the installation of supports in mountain environments must give priority to visibility, legibility and attractive visual communication. The choice of materials is essential, as are graphic design options.
In simple terms, successful signage involves :
- Use materials that can withstand the elements, extreme cold and summer temperatures (aluminum, treated wood, etc.);
- The use of appropriate techniques (high-resistance paints, laser engraving, etc.);
- The use of color codes and pictograms to facilitate rapid access to essential information;
- Optimizing clarity, especially when it comes to mountain safety rules.
Why entrust your signage project to Polymobyl?
From the design to the production of signage, our agency takes charge of your projects from A to Z. We support local authorities and businesses in the creation of personalized signage, tailored to their needs and issues.
Focus on Studio Y by Polymobyl, signage designer
Polymobyl has its own integrated design and graphics agency, Studio Y. Coordinated by a Project Manager who is also your point of contact throughout our collaboration, the team is made up of :
- A graphic designer to create the graphic charter or adapt the media to your own style
- A signage designer who works on traffic flows, the layout of signage and the messages to be conveyed.
- A designer who imagines the signage medium and customizes it to your requirements
- A technician to validate the project’s technical feasibility
Our main strength lies in our project support and the preparatory work we carry out prior to production. Starting with an audit of the site to be developed, we identify the site’s assets, its constraints, the strengths and weaknesses of the existing signage and how to optimize it. Based on this initial diagnosis, our team will suggest the most suitable media, formats, materials and designs for a striking result.
Sign professionals in France since 1986
Over the years, our agency has developed an expertise that is reflected in our achievements. For example, we designed the signage for l’Alpe d’Huez, based on the existing signage, which we then completely redesigned. The result: 82 directional masts to optimize road and pedestrian traffic, better indicate parking zones and identify the resort’s neighborhoods. Pictograms, bright colors and large fonts optimize the visibility and clarity of information.
Switzerland’s largest ski area, the 4 Valleys in Verbier, also called on us to design its signage, particularly for the ski slopes. We relied on clear color codes and ultra-readable fonts to ensure user safety and comfort.
Studio Y’s and Polymobyl’s graphic proposals are focused on personalizing the project. We’re not just media manufacturers, or even simple designers: we imagine a global project in your image, which can include signage and furniture, to ensure a clear visual identity and highlight the image you want to give your space.
